Schools Reopen Wednesday, February 25
Hello to Our Farmingdale Family,
This has been quite a storm, and it has certainly left its mark on our community. I’m writing to share a few thoughts as we look toward tomorrow. We will be opening our schools for in-person learning on a regular schedule. As the snow begins to melt over the next week, please keep the following points in mind to ensure everyone stays safe:
Give yourself plenty of travel time. While our school buildings are in good condition, many of the surrounding roads remain tricky to navigate.
Plan for a slower drop-off. If you drive your children to school, that extra time will help ensure a safe drop-off, as some surrounding areas may not be entirely cleared yet.
Be mindful of bus stops. Navigating certain roadways is still a challenge. Taking a few extra minutes in the morning will help ensure your children are safely at their stops and ready for pick-up.
Please be patient with our buses. Expect some delays over the next few days as our drivers navigate narrow streets and difficult conditions to reach every stop.
Advice for Senior drivers: If your high schooler plans to drive to school, please remind them to take extra time. Our grounds crew did an excellent job clearing the lots, but some spaces are currently occupied by snow piles. Additionally, parking off-property will be a challenge, as many roads are not yet cleared curb-to-curb.
Limited parking in school lots. If you need to park in our lots for any reason, please be aware that capacity is currently reduced. We will be working hard over the next few days to clear those spaces and get them back in use.
I have no doubt that traveling will remain a bit of a challenge for at least another week until the majority of the snow melts. By giving ourselves extra time and staying patient with the inevitable unforeseen hurdles, we can make these next few days much more manageable.
Take good care, Farmingdale—I can’t wait to welcome our kids back tomorrow. I miss them very much. Personally, I would be perfectly happy not seeing another snowflake for the remainder of the year. However, the way this winter is going, it wouldn’t shock me if Mother Nature had another surprise waiting for us!
